ANCIENT THEBES

Welcome back to Egypt along the Nile river.......
I'm in the ancient Egyptian area known as THEBES......
Between The Temple of Luxor and The Temple of Karnak.....
I'm on the ancient road called Ipet-Isut that connects the Temples....
"The Avenue of Sphinxes" is a amazing site to see......
This place I like...... Beautiful too......
One of a kind and awesome place to be.....
BIG ANCIENT AMAZING HISTORICAL SITE FUN
The Avenue of Sphinxes connected Luxor Temple and Karnask Temples......
A direct connecting road 2 miles long with 2,000 Sphinxes........
In ancient Thebes it was called Ipet-Insut....... 3,500 years ago......
Images of Amen, Mut, and Khonus were moved from Temple to Temple.....
There would have been a festival and parade like atmosphere.......
Must have been big, colorful and amazing to see this place in ancient times....
BIG ANCIENT FUN PLACE
The Red Granite Luxor Temple Obelisk......
Over 3,300 years old and a beautiful thing to see.....
One of two originally standing at the Temple entrance.....
The other was given to France in 1833........
They are 75 ft. high and weigh 280 tons each.....
Although it is still in Concorde Square in Paris......
French president Francois Mitterand officially gave the Obelisk back to the people of Egypt in the 1990's.....
I guess Concorde Square is used to it by now......
I sure would not want to try and move it......
Good Photo...! Well... That's it for now from the Temple of Luxor.....
Time to get back to the ship and give it a fairwell and many thanks.....
I'll be back on foot and on my own again..... My normal travel mode.....
Time for some exploring and wandering in the ancient city of "Thebes"......
I admit it was nice for a couple days to be aboard a 5-Star Cruise Ship.....
Once again..... I'm on foot in some foriegn city in some foriegn land......
The best fun you can find anywhere..... In any corner of the globe.....
From The Temple of Luxor...... On the Nile river..... May 2009
