Rome and The Pantheon

Totally and completely awesome.......

I saw this place while on a bus in downtown Rome.....

On my way to Vatican city and St. Peters square.......

So I decided it was time to jump 0ff the bus and look and explore and walk around and see what I can find time again.....

Just like I have done so many times and in so many cities....

Created as a monument to the ancient Roman gods....

Built in 125 A.D.......Yes I said.......125 A.D........

Converted to a Catholic Catherdral in the 7 th century....

About the most impressive and oldest building I've seen and one of the few really ancient and historic places that there is still standing to see in the world....

The Pantheon is the best preserved of all ancient Roman buildings....

The Pantheon was turned into a Catholic Cathedral in the 7th century.....that's 600 something A.D......

The Pantheon has been used as a tomb since the Rennaisance...

Today....Pantheon means ....A monument where the Illustrious dead are buried....

The Pantheon is the oldest domed building still standing in Rome.....

It's dome has inspired many of the most famous and oldest cathedrals in the world.....

Take a look at St. Pauls in London....

Or St. Peters here in Rome.......

Much of the original bronze and marble has been used for St. Peters.....and the Duomo in Florence....and others.....
