I think this is the sign for whatever place it is we stop over at.......
We take a break and get the triple inspection from a bunch of ......
C'mon ....guesss..... you know who......  C'mon......
YES.....correct......  a bunch of guys with machine guns......
You get used to it..... I'd be scared if they were not all over......
I'm used to that now.....  And those nice white uniforms mean they are the good guys...
I'm sure there is a name for this place ......  I just don't know what it is......
Just cause it is a city with no people......doesn't mean it has no name......
I suspect the people who invest in these empty cities.......
And turn them into a rich tourist destinations will find thier own city name anyway.....
Besides ...look at that sign.....   It's all Arabic to me......

Well.....   Here I am back on another bus heading east.....
Nice enough bus......  But it will be a long trip.....
I think we are done with that bit of Arabian Desert (East Desert)......
So now we should be almost on the Sinai Peninsula......
Soon as we cross the Suez Canal that is......
Then it's all sand and sun and sunburn in the High Saini Desert....
Guess I better enjoy this bus's air conditioning while I can......
Probably a very good time to sleep a bit......
As I have no idea where I will be sleeping over the next 4 or 5 days.....

A NEW ADVENTURE

O.K.... So ....here I am checking out the scenes in Cairo......
I'm on my way East to the Arabian Desert and the Suez Canal......
Then The Sinai Penninsula and The Sinai Desert and Mount Moses.....
A short walk, a long bus ride,..... and then...... I have no idea......
This should be quite the adventure......

I won't be trying a subway today......
It should not be a long walk to the Bus Station.....,
After that,.....Well...... Let the adventure begin......
I've got a BIG TRIP planned......

There is so much to see in Cairo.....
Much better to walk and see the sights.....

McDonalds has their promotions here too.......

I've been to alot of bus stations.....in many parts of the world....
There are some odd ones......But this is one of the nicest anywhere....
You know it is upscale ,  when the waiting lounge looks like this....

A nice bus station..... But......  I'm going a little far out there this time.....
No nice bus stations, rest stations , gas stations, nothing quite so nice.....
Lots of High mountains and Desert Sand..... And Sun.....lot's of Sun.....

Then The Suez Canal, The Sinai Penninsula, and The High Sinai Desert .....
After that, I'll try for Mt Moses and the big Monestary there.....

Here I am wandering around The National Military Museum......

This is a great photo...... The Citadel rocks......

Unfortunetly.....  The Military Museum was closing when I got here.....
I did spend alot of time exploring this gigantic place......

Unfortunetly...... There is a drawback to seeing so much in so little time......
I am always on the move.....Same sunset......New place to see it from every night...
So I don't often get back to things.....So ...being closed when I got there......
The Military Museum was not my destiny......But...... Have No Fear.....
Wait till you see where I am at this time Tomorrow.....

Where it is always warm and sunny..... next to the Nile river.......

Yes.....  well .....even if I stayed for another 2 years......
I would still have trouble with reading this.....
I TELL YOU..... If your English orientated.....   Arabic is TOUGH.....

Like I said......  This place is like a super castle.....
Called the Worlds Best Monument to Medieval Warfare.....
That does about say it......and there's so much to see....

The Citadel was awesome.....  but there is more to see......
So....first things first....  I'm heading back to downtown Cairo....

So......  I'm back at The King Tut Hostel........downtown Cairo.....
Not the most original name..... but lot's of decor... and I have a nice room.....
Down the hall to the left past treasure room painting..... Fun decor....

Here I am back at my Hostel in downtown Cairo......
About to head out for some Cairo sidewalk fun.....
Cairo has one of the funnest downtown areas I've seen.....
And I've seen almost ALL the big cities you can think of.....
Food , Ice Cream, People , Entertainment, and just plain fun.....
NO...... not what I expected,... but it all depends where you play....
Paris is awesome in the evenings... around the monuments and the Seine.....
BUT,  there are place there you don't want to be after dark......
Cairo is also a BIG city......So stay where the Sidewalk Shopping is.....

Window Shopping in downtown Cairo is AWESOME.....
Some of it is like 5th ave. Manhatten but much more fun.....
Soon as the sun begins to fade.....and the temp. drops to 90 or less......
Everybody and thier grandpa and kids hit the sidewalks of downtown Cairo....
Ice cream vendors everywhere and movie theatres on everyblock.....
And let's not forget the FOOD......sidewalk cafe's and fruit stands too....
BIG DOWNTOWN FUN

Here's the theatre on the same block as my hostel.....
My Hostel is well located....(across from McDonalds)......
Same building as the Embassy to India......(sorta weird).....
It's sorta the Hostel/Tourist./English part of downtown Cairo.....
A much better choice than trying to learn Arabic.....
I did find a movie playing in English one night......
It was  "Friday The 13".... and the only one in English......
I watched about half of it before walking out on it......
Some things are just BAD in any language or any country....
Still.....  It was fun enough .....all of downtown Cairo is fun.....

It is also less than a block from my Hostel.....

I have no doubt this guy is just as mean as he looks......
As far as fish go.......  That's one bad 4 legged fishy.....
You wont be catching and eating this one.....
He may eat you though.....if he can catch you.....

THE CITADEL

Believe it or not....... I'm in Africa......  Egypt that is.....
I'm at the Old Palace Grounds at the Citadel in Cairo , Egypt.....
This place is beautiful with fountains and Ironwork and a killer view.....
This was the Royal Palace atop the Citadel Fortress until the 1850's......
Time to look around and check how royalty lived in Old Cairo.....
May 2009....
