This awesome fountian is on the front steps of the Parliament House in 1st district ( RingstraBe) in Vienna....

On top is the famous "ATHENA"....

Question: Isn't Athena either Greek or Roman...?

Why is she on a Pedistal in Vienna, Austria...?

I believe she was the model for the many "VENUS" sculptures and paintings....

Guess I'll have to look all this up soon...

Exploring the City Center area of Vienna in May 2008...

Now this.....is one of the very most interesting things I found in Europe....

Often dedicated to Mother Mary ....this often called a Marian or Holy Trinity Column....

It's purpose is to give thanks....

Now this Column.....built in 1693....is just one of many built at that time in Austria......It is a PLAGUE COLUMN.....

Built to gives thanks for the end of the Black Plague in Europe and some more more complicated issues around 1679 (from wood) and the one pictured here replaced it in 1693.....

At the end of the Bubonic Plague ..... after it killed 30-60 percent of all Europeans.....

Yes it really is.....Built to celebrate 50 years in power of one of Viennas rulers...

Impressive area and a total contrast to the rest of Vienna....

That has some of the oldest and most impressive buildings in Europe...

The distance from London to Rome is 900 miles...

The distance from Vienna to Chornobyl in the Ukraine....

Yes in ASIA.....RUSSIA..... is only about 400 miles.....
